The most used drug in the world – Caffeine
Tuesday, August 1st, 2017
The most used ‘drug’ on the planet, caffeine is consumed by millions of people every day – and you don’t have to be a coffee lover to be in the caffeine club – it’s in everything from fizzy drinks to green tea.
So how does it affect us?
- It can have an effect on your body in as little as 10 minutes and hits its ‘prime’ after around 45 minutes – depending on how your body processes it – we’re all different, there’s research to suggest age and gender can have an effect on how our bodies respond to it.
- It triggers the release of dopamine in your brain which can make you feel more relaxed and positive. Ever wondered why you always seem to need that espresso on a Monday morning?
- It can have an impact on your nervous system and some people can experience withdrawals – if their body becomes accustomed to regular daily intake.
But what about when it comes to exercise?
Caffeine causes a spike in adrenaline which readies your body for exercise, for optimum results from your Americano, the average person would get the most from a caffeinated drink 30 minutes before a session!
See you in the coffee queue!
